MACHINING COST ESTIMATOR – 1st Shift
About the Role
Gibbs Die Casting is seeking a detail-driven Machining Cost Estimator to support new business development and ongoing product launches. In this role, you’ll turn customer designs into accurate machining and assembly cost estimates, working closely with Engineering, Operations, and customers to ensure competitive, data-driven quotes from concept through production.
This is a salaried, exempt position ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, collaborating across teams, and applying machining expertise to real-world manufacturing decisions.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare machining and assembly RFQs and customer quotes using blueprints, CAD models, and customer data
- Collaborate with machining suppliers and internal teams to develop accurate, competitive cost estimates
- Analyze cost variances, gaps, and process assumptions to support decision-making
- Participate in customer technical reviews and internal cross-functional meetings
- Review machining estimates for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with customer requirements
- Develop conceptual machining estimates for new product development opportunities
- Maintain labor rates, overhead data, and cost models
- Prepare machining data and documentation for awarded jobs and master files
- Generate reports and perform targeted cost or project analyses as needed
What We’re Looking For
Education
- High School Diploma required
- Associate degree or technical degree preferred
Experience
- 3+ years of experience in CNC machining, cost estimating, or piece-price costing
- Die-casting experience strongly preferred
- Strong blueprint reading skills with solid understanding of GD&T
Technical & Analytical Skills
- Ability to calculate CNC speeds and feeds for die-cast components
- Proficiency with CAD systems (Siemens NX preferred)
- Strong Excel skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools
- Comfortable learning new technology and collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams)
