EHS SAFETY SPECIALIST

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for driving day-to-day EHS performance and works under the guidance of the Director of EHS to ensure compliance with Federal and State EHS regulations, Gibbs policies, and environmental permits.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Investigates all OSHA recordable incidents, ergonomic injuries and employee complaints. Document and work with respective plant management on recommended corrective actions, maintain incident investigation records, follow up on and review implemented corrective actions.
  • Performs and/or coordinates EHS required training as needed (Powered Industrial Truck, LOTO, Ergonomics, etc.).
  • Evaluates hazardous conditions and recommends engineering and administrative controls, and/or personal protective equipment.
  • Uses Microsoft Office to prepare and create various reports, including charts and graphs, to determine trends and needs.
  • Ensures safety and environmental compliance with federal, state and company regulations and policies by conducting audits and following up with appropriate departmental supervisors/managers.
  • Demonstrates safe work practices and coaches others in safe behaviors.
  • Analyzes new and existing processes to ensure safety and ergonomic compliance. Identifies gaps and seeks solutions in order to obtain process equipment acceptance.
  • Evaluates industrial hygiene (IH) issues for facility personnel through compliance review, auditing, and IH testing and recommended mitigation to plant management and EHS Director.
  • Understands and applies ergonomic principles and tools such as anthropometric tables, hand tool design requirements for lifting as defined by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) standards.
  • Manages and/or assists with safety and environmental project activities including scheduling, tracking, and planning for safety and environmental assessments.
  • Interprets data and observations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry guidelines and advises management accordingly.
  • Prepares technical documentation for management's use when dealing with regulatory agencies and other internal/external needs.
  • Follows all Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality Policy regulations including the proper use of all required personal protective equipment.
  • Meets all physical and environmental requirements.

REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelors in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Sciences, or Applicable Engineering.

Certifications:  Will be required to have or obtain OSHA 30-Hour training, and CPR Certification within six (months) of starting.

Experience: 3 years required.

Other:  May be required to travel to attend seminars and conferences to keep up to date on issues, trends and required compliance to laws.
